TWIYO is a free educational app for children with autism and developmental challenges. It helps children learn words by matching them to images, and provides communication tools as an affordable alternative to expensive speech devices.
TWIYO is designed for children with autism, speech-language difficulties, and other developmental challenges. It is also suitable for parents, caregivers, speech therapists, and teachers working with these children.
Yes! The core features are completely free: the word-image matching game, adding your own photos, text-to-speech, and offline use. There is also an optional Premium subscription for extra features like the AAC communication board, speller board, and unlimited words.
TWIYO is available in Dutch and English. You can switch between languages at any time using the language icon in the header.
Visit twiyo.app on your tablet or phone. Your browser will show an option to add the app to your home screen. After installation, TWIYO works just like a regular app — with its own icon and full screen.
Yes! After the first visit, TWIYO is stored locally on your device. All features work fully offline — in the car, in the waiting room, anywhere.
TWIYO works on any device with a modern browser: iPads, Android tablets, iPhones, Android phones, laptops, and desktops. It's optimized for tablets but works everywhere.
TWIYO updates automatically when you're online. You'll see a notification when an update is available. You don't need to do anything — no manual app store updates.
All personal data — images, words, progress — is stored exclusively on your device in IndexedDB. Nothing is uploaded to a server. We can't see your data, even if we wanted to.
No, never. Photos you add are stored as local files on your device. They never leave your device and are not sent to any cloud or server.
No! TWIYO works fully without an account. In the future, an optional account will be available to sync preferences across devices, but personal content (photos, words) will always stay on your device.
Security: personal content (photos, words, progress) stays on your device in the browser; we do not receive it on our servers. The site uses HTTPS. Parent settings are protected by a parent lock (PIN) — change the default code right away. Payments go through Stripe securely; we do not store card details. Backups: TWIYO does not make automatic cloud backups. In Parent settings you can export a backup file and import it later on another device (import replaces local content). Keep that file safe yourself. Multiple users: many visitors using the website at once is fine — everyone has their own data on their own device. On one tablet, children share the same local storage; for separate profiles, use separate devices or switch via export/import. Premium and trial apply per device/browser.
Go to Parent settings (PIN) → Settings tab → Manage or cancel subscription. You will be redirected to the secure Stripe portal. A monthly plan can be cancelled every month; you keep Premium until the end of the paid month. See also /terms.
The terms of use and subscription terms are at twiyo.app/terms (also linked when you subscribe).
AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. The communication board lets your child tap images to form sentences that are spoken via text-to-speech. You can communicate at home with pictures — also when a professional speech device is not (yet) available to your family.
Yes! In the parent panel you can take or upload photos and add words. Use photos of familiar objects, family members, or places — this way your child learns with material that truly has meaning.
TWIYO uses your device's built-in speech feature (Web Speech API). You can choose between a male, female, or child voice, and adjust the speed. No internet connection needed.
