Recording your own voice: why and how in TWIYO

A trusted voice helps children listen sooner. How to record per word — stored locally, works offline.

For many children with autism or speech-language difficulties, an unfamiliar computer voice feels distant. Mom, dad, or a regular caregiver’s voice is recognizable — and that often makes practicing words and pictures easier.

In TWIYO you can record two short clips per custom word in the parent panel (gear + PIN) → Words & images → open a word → Audio recordings. One clip is the word itself (learn mode: “this is …”). The other is “Where is the …?” for the word game.

Tips for a good recording: a quiet room, phone close to your mouth, speak slowly and clearly, and keep phrases short. Play back before you continue. Want it different? You can always re-record.

Your recordings are saved as audio files on your device — not in the cloud. After recording, it works offline too. No recording yet? TWIYO uses text-to-speech or a clear default voice.

Combine recordings with your own photos: “grandpa” with his real face and a parent saying “grandpa”. That makes learning personal. Read more about photos in our article on custom words with photos at twiyo.app/blog.
